Hey folks!!

I thought that I would make this guide to help people that know nothing about anime or would like to answers to certain beginner questions.

We shall start with different anime and manga categories.

 Shoujo/Shojo

Shoujo is anime or manga geared towards females.  They often tend to have a lot of romance in them.  Do not worry fellows, you can read Shoujo.

A few examples of Shoujo are: Fruits Basket, Boys Over Flowers, Crimson Hero, Fushigi Yuugi, and more.

Shounen
Shounen is anime or manga that has a lot of action in it.  Most of the time it is something that is geared towards males.  Ladies can read Shounen, too.  I know that I am a huge fan of the stuff.

A few examples of Shounnen are Gantz:  This one is noe for children, Naruto, Great Teacher Onizuka, and many more.

Shoujo-Ai

Shoujo-Ai contains stories where females are very close.  Often times they are lovers, but nothing too graphic goes on with them.  There maybe some hugging or a kiss or two.

Good examples of that would be:   Revolutionary Girl Utena, Original Versions of Sailor Moon, and a few others.

Shounen-Ai

Shounen-Ai has stories with males that are attracted to each other.  You can find some hugging and kissing.  Often times the stories contain a person that has a crush on another person of the same sex.

Examples of Shounen-Ai would be: Gravitation, Loveless, and more.

The following types of books should only be read by Adults.  They can be very graphic at times.

Yaoi

Yaoi is anime or manga that contains relationships involving males.  They have graphic sexual relationships with each other.

Examples of this would be The Art of Loving, Level C, and many more.

Yuri

Yuri contains females having graphic sexual relationships with one another.

Strong Examples of this would be  Maria sama ga Miteru, Maka Maka, and others.
Here are a few words that you may hear in Japanese animations:

Baka:  Idiot/Stupid
Kun:  It is usually used at the end of a young boys name.
For example:

John-Kun

Other ones that you can find are:

San - Respectful ending to a person's name.  Smith San would merely translate to Mr. Smith.

Chan - This is for a younger child, but is mostly used for a girl.  It is also a way for some couples to show their love for each other.  In the case of lovers it is like saying Dear.

Ohayougozaimasu:   Translates to Good morning!  This is usually used before 10am.

The Ohayou is usually seen spelled like Ohayo, but I spelled it the Ohayou because it has the long sound.

Moshi Moshi:  Translates to Hello.  This is the conventional beginning of a telephone conversation.

I hope this has helped.  This guild will be edited from time to time so that I can add more things.
