The Western "Cowboy" Belt Buckle has been really popular since the 1920's when the movie makers showed cowboy's wearing big, shiny belt buckles.
Buckles are often silver plated, but the most expensive ones are made with lots of gold. Some buckles are made of sterling silver, brass, german silver, pewter, metal and leather.
Buckles are available in so many shapes and sizes and depending on your physical build and size, you need to choose a buckle that not only helps you "make a statement" about yourself and personality, but a size and shape that fits your body size.
Most western style belts have snaps on them to allow you to snap on a buckle of your choice rather than using the typical stock buckle that is available on most belts. When you attach your own belt buckle to one of these belts, you will find that the buckle will add length to the belt. The rule of thumb is, the buckle should fasten into the middle hole of the belt. Also, most belt buckles will accept a belt up to 1 1/2" wide. So if you have a 1 3/4" or 2" wide belt, you will be limited as to being able to find a buckle that is wide enough to fasten it to.
Belts and Buckles are in style, so have fun creating that image that you desire to make.
