Hello again to all my present, past and future ebay customers.  I have been doing my best to write some guides for everyone in my spare time to help you make informed decisions about your purchases.  I am prompted to write a bit more about buying rings, because it is clearly one of the most difficult items to buy not only on ebay, but anywhere on line because you cannot try it on first .  When I offer rings on ebay, I always measure them with my old ring pole sizing mandrel. I have a bakelite one because I collect bakelite, but they're just as accurate in metal or other materials.  I use a standard sizer, it is the only kind I have encountered although my other ring guide about WIDE BAND RINGS, mentions that I've been told there are ones for wide bands.  This guide is for all rings in all materials, guidelines to live by when buying any ring online.

There is another factor besides WIDE band width which I'd like to address for everyone, it's also a case of fit when there is NARROW band width as well.  This can also greatly affect the fit of your ring.  If a shank is thin, you may have to size DOWN half a size just like on a WIDE BAND, you generally have to SIZE UP half a size or so.  This will be true especially when you have a large heavy front to the ring, the ring may turn or rock side to side on the finger and appear to be too big, even though it is the size stated. If you have fingers that taper alot, thinner to thicker and are thicker where the finger has to go over your knuckle, yet thin where the finger meets the palm, again, the ring will rock. People with fingers like that will be better off buying a thicker shanked ring or one that does not have a thin shank and large heavy stone. If you fall in love with a huge heavy solitaire on a thin band, as I often do, you may want to go a little smaller if the ring will still make it over your knuckle. If you find yourself with a rocking ring after all, a good thing to have is a two plain bands you can sandwich the larger ring between, this is one way I steady a ring that is a little large, or rocks. Another trick I have learned, since I have these kind of fingers that get thin close to the palm, is that  sometimes it helps when you wear the ring a little higher on the finger and not right where it meets the palm.  If you want to stack a series of rings on this kind of finger, buy a smaller size for the bottom ring worn by the palm, and size up a size for the next for example a 6 and 7 will work for you, for a third ring depending on your fingers and the width of the band rings, the third stacker could be a 7.5 to 8.

One thing to always remember when you are buying online,  you must be understanding and kind to your seller, even if you buy a ring that doesn't fit your finger. You cannot blame the seller if it doesn't fit you if they measured it professionally and stated it accurately. After all, they are not there to make sure it fits you, and they cannot do so unless you go visit them or they visit you in which case you would not be transacting online. Remember it is not their responsibility to worry that you know your own ring size.  Far too many people will bid and buy a final sale item, measured accurately, and want to return it because it doesn't fit them, which is not fair to your seller.  So, whenever possible, and it's ALWAYS possible, email the seller first and ask the seller how they measure the ring size so you can be sure it is the size stated. Also do yourself a favor and have a jeweler size your finger as well, by trying on his sizing rings until you find the correct size, and with all that take into consideration all I stated here about widths, weights and ect.

Although I state HOW I measure, I had someone tell me I was wrong by half a size recently because "their husbands finger was 9", and I measured a definite 8.5! Human fingers are not professional sizers even if you DO know your real size due to different shapes of fingers and the different fits of rings. She bought a huge heavy solitaire on a thin band and complained that it turned on her finger, even though I stated this situation on auction to be aware of, because I really try to think of every scenario for you so there will be no problems after the sale, even if I lose the sale by being too honest. Please always keep in mind when buying, that you can't use a persons fingers as a professional measuring device and argue that since it fits that person, the seller is wrong. Always ask if possible, if this is an accurately measured piece, and beware if someone says "Well, it fit my ring finger and I am a size 6, ect, unless they've already told you it was sized professionally first and are comparing for you with their fingers in addition. I have thought my fingers were a certain size, then found out my finger wasn't even that size anymore, life and age does change hands and feet, not to mention the rest! Therefore, if a seller states a size is measured, remember all these factors can affect your fit, band width, band narrowness, dimensions front to back, heavy solitaires, so don't blame the seller if the ring doesn't fit at the size stated.

One last factor is especially pertinent for us ladies more so than men, let's face it, sometimes your fingers swell, and shrink, and for men and women alike, finger sizes also change with weight gain and loss too. Not only that, but IN THE SUMMER, RINGS ARE TIGHTER IN THE HEAT. IN WINTER, THEY WILL BECOME LOOSE AGAIN IN THE COLD!

I hope everyone can learn from this guide so the next ring fits, LIKE A GLOVE!
