A Guide to Diane Von Furstenberg
Diane Von Furstenberg is a designer most famous as the creator of the wrap dress. Beginning in 1972, Von Furstenberg made a splash on the fashion scene with her use of soft jersey to make upscale casual dresses, and since then her design has consistently set a standard for classic American apparel. Her collection, DVF, includes fashion, accessories, jewelry, fragrances, and cosmetics.
Von Furstenberg is dedicated to bridging fashion with other lively arts. To that end, her headquarters in New York City contains a theater space, and sponsors the work of many up-and-coming artists. Last year, Von Furstenberg was awarded the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Lifetime Achievement Award for the importance of her work for over 30 years in fashion and culture.
Among Von Furstenberg's dresses are some that are classic and demure, and others that are more casual and flirtatious. For example, the Estovan is a knee length dress with a wide V-neck that is equally appropriate for the office or for dinner at an elegant restaurant. The Ophelia and the Shaunthi are both more feminine and delicate dress styles.
Diane Von Furstenberg also offers a line of accessories, including different styles of bags. The Maria clutch bag, available in a gold finish, can be paired equally well with a pair of jeans or a cocktail dress. Her Hobo bag offers more storage space and is made in white Italian leather and accented with grommets. For even more storage, the Bardote grand tote bag can fit everything that you need to go to the beach, with room to spare.
