A Guide to Buying 1997-1998 Pacific Crown Royale

The 1997-1998 Pacific Crown Royale is the first year of Pacific's
die cut crown cards.  This set has a main set of 144 cards that
make up the base set.  There are also 5 subsets and 3 variations
of the main set.  

Main Set

This was the first year that Pacific made the crown royale set.
These cards have been die cut in the shape of a crown.  The cards
have a picture of the player on the front, along with the team
logo and the palyers name.  The main rookies in this set are
Kevin Weekes, Patrik Elias, Vaclav Prospal, and Marco Sturm.
The three types of parallel cards are Emerald Green, Ice Blue,
and Silver.  The Emerald Green is only available from Canadian
packs, the Silver is only found in US packs, and the Ice Blue
can be found either pack.  This scattering of parallel cards
helps increase the collectibility of certain cards.

Inserts

Blades of Steel

The odds of finding a card from this insert was 1 card per
49 packs.  The cards feature major stars from different teams
and are shaped in a die cut shape of a skate.  Card # 14 of
Gretzky is the highest priced card from this set at $40.00

Cramer's Choice Jumbos

These cards were inserted at a rate of 1 card per box of cards.
They are shaped in the form of a pyramid.  There are very rare
parallels in this insert that are numbered /10. 

Freeze Out Die Cuts

The odds of finding this goalie themed insert are 1 card per
25 packs.  This set is a random cut die cut rectangle (to
simulate shattering ice or glass) along the outside of the card.
The most expensive card in this set is #5 Patrick Roy at $60.00

Hat Tricks Die Cuts

These cards were found 1 out of 25 packs.   The theme of this
subset is that of players that scored 3 or more goals in one
game.  The cards are cut in the shape of a top hat and feature
goal scorers. 

Lamplighters Cel-Fusion Die Cuts

The odds of finding these cards are 1 card per 73 packs.  These
cards are rare and hard to find.  The top priced card is again
Gretzky at $120.00.  The complete set is only 20 cards and goes
for $400.00 for the set.

This is a very nice base set.  They have also included a
great variety of parallel cards and inserts.  This makes the
collecting value of this set very high.  A true treat for any
collector.
