Over the years, Mattel has used a variety of head molds to create their various lines of Barbie dolls plus Barbie’s friends and family. One head mold that is tremendously popular with collectors is the "Steffie" head mold.

Here are some photos of various dolls that were made using the Steffie Head Mold:

Hawaiian Barbie from the 1970’s was available in several different versions:

The Steffie Head Mold was often used on Barbie’s glamorous Cousin, PJ. Here we have 2 different PJ dolls from the 1980’s, Sweet Roses PJ and Dream Date PJ:

And one more PJ photo: This one shows Fashion Photo PJ doll.

Barbie’s Friend Tracy Bride was also made using the Steffie Head Mold.

Here is a list of some more of the dolls that Mattel made using the Steffie head mold.

Additionally, Mattel released a line of tiny fashion dolls in 1982 known as "Dazzle". These dolls were only 4.5" high. Dazzle’s head mold resembles the Superstar Barbie Head Mold from 1976. However, 5 of Dazzle’s friends use head molds that resemble a miniature version of the Steffie head mold. They are:

Crystal

Glissen

Glossy

Spangle

Shimmer

Here is a photo of the Glossy doll:

Many great resources are available on the topic of Mattel’s fashion dolls and their head molds. If you want to learn more, here are some recommended publications:

Thirty Years of Mattel Fashion Dolls by J. Michael Augustyniak

Barbie Bazaar Magazine Back Issues

Miller’s Fashion Doll Magazine Back Issues

Collector's Encyclopedia of Barbie Exclusives by J. Michael Augustyniak

The Ultimate Barbie Doll Book: Identification and Price Guide by Marcie Melillo

And of course, the little promotional Catalogs, Pamphlets and Booklets that were issued by Mattel along with the dolls are great sources of information as well.

I hope that this guide gives you a good starting point for finding beautiful dolls with the Steffie head mold. Happy Hunting!
