Downloadable software falls into 3 distinct types. The 1st type is
various software companies have websites for their companies that offer
you the opportunity to download software instead of waiting days or
weeks for a delivery through the mail of a CD. The advantage is speed.
The disadvantage is to download most of these products you need
broadband speed and you make your own CD for backup. The 2nd type is
shareware or try-before-you-buy programs. You download a trial version
that has a set number of days to use it. Then you must purchase it or
it stops working. The 3rd type is freeware. Someone wrote this program
and is offering it to you for use. Some very popular freeware programs
are utilities that help stop spam & Pop Ups (Pop Up Stopper) or
spyware (Ad-aware). There are all kinds of such software available on
the web and numerous websites to get them from. There are websites that
are dedicated just for shareware and/or freeware as well as many
websites put on the Internet by particular companies that offer their
software. Just search Google using either the companies' names, the
products, or the terms shareware and freeware.
