Did you know that HALF of all bites that occur at night are completely MISSED? This talks about how you can avoid this little-known problem.
I couldn't believe it when I heard it for the first time. Over HALF of all game strikes are completely MISSED during night fishing.
Just eliminating these "misses" can instantly DOUBLE your hookups, just by taking a few careful measures to make sure all of your "senses" are tuned in to the fish nibbling your bait at the other end of your line.
Here are a few things that you should do NOW to make sure you don't miss another "trophy" fish just begging to be caught:
1. Use braided line whenever possible. It saves a lot of retying of frayed line and its sensitivity makes bites easier to detect.
2. Wear a headlight for focused light on your line. Focus that light on your rod tip so you can see any action you may be getting. Especially in deep water, fish will swim "out" not down, so your rod tip will
barely move. Get a light on it so you can tell!
3. Use fluorescent monofilament line. It will increase your catch ratio, dramatically. Use it in combination with a "black light" so that you can detect strikes in total darkness.
4. Attach a tip light to your rod. Using a tip light, I can do a better job of sensing bites than I do during the day. Because of the contrast of the light to the dark backdrop, every nibble is amplified.
So get off your butt and do just ONE of these things. Track your catchresults over time and I guarantee you will see an increase.
Too many bites go unnoticed, don't let them!
'Till then.
