There are a few standard features that remain the same across the board.  Canon has implemented a system called Print/Share.  There is a button on every PowerShot camera that Canon offers which allows you to easily select any picture for downloading or printing from any one of the assorted printer docks available in concordance with your purchased camera.  This button makes it easy to navigate through all the steps of selecting a particular picture among the many on an already full SD/MMC data card.  Another set of features that come standard with PowerShot cameras are digital "helpers" that aid in the taking of photographs.  These include, but are not limited to, Optical Image Stabilizer, Face Detection AE/AF, High ISO Auto, Creative Light Effects and various movie modes. 
The Canon cameras can be broken down into three fairly distinct categories: PowerShot A series, PowerShot SD series and Digital EOS cameras.  Respectively, they go from beginner to expert.  You don't need to know hardly anything about using a camera to get great shots from an A series camera.  You don't need much outside knowledge to use an SD camera either, but there are a few more features here that require a more in-depth interest to tap into.  Finally, the EOS series is Canon's offering to the elite.  These cameras do not have auto-face detection or image stabilizers.  The EOS camera line is designed to give you a broad variety of options for how you want to shoot your images.  You can choose to have all of the minutiae of picture-taking manually set, to make some selections automatic, and others manual.  If you don't know what a shutter or an aperture is, and you don't want to learn how to white-balance your camera, then stick to the PowerShot's.  You won't be disappointed, and the learning curve is not nearly as great.
