To Buy Wood you must have an understanding of the word Cord, a measure for purchasing cut/split wood. A Cord of wood is usually the amount of Cut & Split Wood that can be stacked Eight feet Long, Four feet High, and Four feet Tall. Theoretically that comprises about 128 Cubic Feet. It is said that a Good Stacking of wood will be loose enough for the Squirrel to squeeze through, but tight enough to stop the Cat from chasing it.

Always ask for a price that has a Basis on a Standard Cord of Hardwood. Remember, wood purchased Green will lose up to 1,500 Pounds in Moisture(water) as it Cures or Seasons, or about ten percent of its volume!(curing takes usually more than a year, but wood stacked under a vented shelter in the sun can be ready to burn in half the time)  Most wood cutters/suppliers consider a Cord as a Measured Stack of Green Four Foot Logs, before processing.(cutting to length/splitting) Consider also that when cutting the four foot logs, the Chain Saw Kerfs will also eat up more Volume.(sawdust!) The best Formula for a Standard Cord is Length in Feet x Height of Stack x Width in Feet divided by 128 Cubic Feet.
