A Beginner’s Guide of World of Warcraft

(A brief introduction)

For all you Noob’s out there, here’s my guide to the most exhilarating gaming experience of your lifetime! There are a lot of online games out there, but none can hardly compare to the rich graphics of this totally interactive world environment.

For the sake of time, this is just going to be a short glimpse into an exciting new world, the World of Warcraft.

Finding the game:

You can find the game at most stores that sell Computer software and games. You can expect to pay somewhere in the range of $30 to $45 for the game. However, being that this is an online experience of a lifetime, they do charge an extra $15 a month to cover the costs of continuous maintenance of the game to provide the best possible services to the players at all times. You will need a credit card to set up your account, but don’t worry too much about that… Your first month after buying the game is completely FREE and your credit card will NOT be billed if you cancel your account before that first month is up or you buy a 60 day game card for about $30. If you choose not to cancel your account or buy a game card, they will charge your credit card $14.99 a month to continue their outstanding service and your rewarding gaming experience. Character Selection:

There are TWO factions to choose from: Alliance and Horde. The Alliance are considered the “good guys” and the Horde are supposed to be the “bad guys” in the environment. The Alliance are made up of four races: Humans, Night Elves, Dwarves, and Gnomes. The Horde also have four races: Orcs, Trolls, Taurens, and Undead. Within each race, there are several different classes to choose from: Warriors, Druids, Hunters, Mages, Priests, and Warlocks. However, the Alliance have a special class called Paladins and the Horde have a special class called Shamans. During your character selection process, you can read about each faction, race and class to choose the one that sounds the most intriguing to your desires. After that, you can change the looks of your character by changing things like hair color and style, skin color, body piercings and tattoos, and a few other things. After that is set just the way you want it, you can finally choose your character’s name and begin your adventures.

Gameplay:

After a short screenplay, you will find yourself in your character’s “starting area.” Don’t worry, the mobs (game term for monsters) will NOT attack you unless you attack them first. Your first task is to find somebody with a yellow exclamation point (!) over their head. This person is known as a QUEST GIVER. Go talk to that person and get your first quest. Quests may be to go find and talk to somebody else who may give you a quest, or it may be to go kill so many of something. Most mobs drop some things of value and/or use, or they may drop “money.” Just like any economy, money is used to purchase things. Copper, Silver, and Gold make up the money system. 100 Copper makes 1 silver. 100 silver makes 1 gold. You will find Vendors thoughout the world where you can buy stuff like better weapons and armor, or food and drinks, or health and mana potions and many other things.

Leveling:

You start out at level 1. Your goal is to reach level 60, so you can run ENG GAME INSTANCES (which are dungeons with elite mobs). You gain levels by killing mobs and turning in quests, each yielding Experience Points (XP). The more XP you get, the higher up in levels you gain. As you gain levels, you get bigger and better spells and skills. After you reach level 10, you also start getting Talent Points. These talent points can be spent in any of the 3 talent trees your particular class will be given.

Communication:

Aside from talking to quest givers, you can also talk to other players in chat. Here you may ask questions if you need help with something and you may even find a friend or two along the way. ☺ There are different channels to talk in: Typing “/1” will get you into the General Chat where EVERYBODY in that general area will be able to read what you write. If you only want to talk to one specific person, there are 2 different ways to go about that. If you can SEE them, just click on that person, then RIGHT click on their picture at the top of your screen and choose “Whisper” then type out your message to them. You can also just type “/w playername” and type out your message. You can NOT talk to players of the opposing faction! They can NOT understand what you say, because they speak a different language.

Auction House:

In each of the 3 major cities of your faction and 3 neutral cities, you will find what is called an Auction House (AH). Here you may find better weapons and armor, and just about anything else that other players pick up along their game-play but do not need for their own. You can also put up your own items for other players to purchase.

Mailbox:

In front of every Inn, you will find a mailbox. Mailboxes are used to send other players in the game, mail… If you purchase something from the AH, it will be sent to you in the mail. If you sell something on the AH, the money you made will be sent in the mail.

Conclusion:

Asking someone to explain life from birth to death is a huge project. Explaining the realms of World of Warcraft is also a huge project, because it is a complete world environment. There is so much more to say about the game, but for the sake of time, I am going to leave you with this. I hope this essay was enough to get you started in World Of Warcraft. See ya in the game!
