Many of us have tons of CD's and DVD's in our homes, cars, and offices. Those discs can store photos, videos, documents, and a lot of other types of information. It is important that you keep those discs clean so you are able to keep viewing that information for years to come. Below is a step by step process that will inform you on the basic way to clean a CD or DVD:
Basic Cleaning:
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions for using a cleaner. Just like most of the time, put the cleaner on the cloth first, not directly on the CD or DVD.
- Hold the discs by it's edges and center hole.
- Use an anti-static cloth to wipe across the CD or DVD.
- Work from inside to outside in straight lines, not circles.
- Wipe until the CD or DVD is clean and dry.
- You can also use a soft, lint-free cloth or smooth, unscented toilet paper with the cleaning solution.
- Household cleaning products, including alcohol, abrasive cleaners, petroleum-based products, ammonia and commercial plastic cleaners, may harm CD's or DVD's.
- Scrubbing, polishing, and buffing may also damage the CD or DVD.
