Be careful when buying a Sony Playstation 3 on ebay.   If you find yourself in a bidding war against other buyers, drop out.  There are so many Playstation 3's for sale on ebay, that if you do a search for listings ending in the next hour, you will find dozens of listings, many with NO bidders or just a few bidders, some even closing, or about to close, BELOW the original retail price.

What has happened is that the supply has exceed the demand, at least on ebay.  That is a GOOD thing for the buyer.

Sellers hoping to make a killing, who waited in line for 3 days, to buy a Playstation 3 for $500 and still plan to sell it on ebay for $3000 have found that is no longer possible and only that first weekend after release were they actually that high.

There are TWO SUREFIRE ways to get the lowest price on ebay.   Once you have made sure you are buying a FACTORY SEALED unit, you know you are going to get a new unit.   You just have to decide if you want a 20 gb or 60 gb unit.  Then they are all the same from any seller.     Some sellers will add in bonus items, so keep an eye on that for a better deal.

Here are the two ways:

1.   Click on ADVANCED search on ebay.    Search for BUY IT NOW transactions only, that accept PayPal (protect yourself, pay ONLY with PayPal).   Then when the transactions come up, sort by lowest price first.    Do this several times a day, so you can be first to snatch up a really low BUY IT NOW deal before someone else does.   For further protection, as this is an expensive item, buy ONLY from a seller with $1000 worth of PayPal protection, look on the top right of the page, beneath where it says MEET THE SELLER and you will see if you have $1000 worth of coverage.  Without that, you will get only $200 worth of coverage, if PayPal cannot recover the funds from the seller directly, for a transaction gone bad, for you.

2.  do a regular search on ebay, for Sony Playstation 3 and sort by auctions ending soonest.   Then swoop in on those auctions ending in the next few minutes.  Look for ones below the going average market price.   You should have no problem getting a Playstation 3 for very near what the original retail was on these.

ONE MORE note:  the Playstation 3 has received a lot of bad press lately, about units catching on fire and the units not functioning correctly.   It might be better to wait till they have perfected the problems, but if the Playstation 3 is a MUST HAVE for you right now, try one of these two methods we have listed here.   Even if you have a unit which malfunctions and does not perform up to specs, you will have the warranty backing you up from a most reputable company:  SONY.
