I just read the other "7 Reasons" guide and felt compelled to stand up for VHS. Here are seven reasons why I think VHS tapes are better than DVDs:
1) VHS tapes are cheaper than DVDs.
VHS tapes are "cheap as borscht". In fact, most sellers will actually pay YOU to take them away.
2) VHS tapes are easier to use than DVDs.
VHS tapes are much easier to use than DVDs; you just pop them in, and press play. Ever try teaching Grandma to play a DVD? 'Nuf said!
3) VHS tapes will last longer than DVDs.
VHS tapes are more durable than DVDs. I have many VHS tapes that are almost 30 years old and still play fine. I also have a very nice DVD coaster set that I am thinking of selling on eBay; watch for it!
4) Video tapes NEVER try to access the internet.
My DVDs are always trying to access the internet without my permission. I hate that! My VHS tapes have NEVER try to surf the web without asking first.
5) Video tapes sound better than DVDs
VHS tapes sound much better than DVDs on my el-cheapo home entertainment system. With DVDs, the sound effects are too loud and voices too soft; I'm always fiddling with the sound levels. VHS tapes are juuuust right!
6) VHS videos are a poorer quality than DVDs.
Actually, VHS tapes and DVDs look about the same to my 50-year-old eyes; however, with VHS at least I can blame the tapes.
7) VHS tapes are bigger than DVDs.
VHS tapes may take up a little more shelf space, but I can easily locate the title I want without having to change my glasses first.
Those are some reasons why VHS video tapes are better than DVDs, but my most favorite reason is that my kids NEVER lend them to their friends :o)
