A Guide on 6 EASY Steps to make Fabric Yo-Yo.
1. You need:
- Fabric
- Template
- Rotary Cutter
- Needle and thread
- Scissors
- Pencil or washable pen.
2. Wash your fabric. That is very important just to ensure that the colors are fast and the material has been preshrunk. The thought of color running after all your hard work is unbearable!
3. Lay your template flat on the fabric and mark the fabric with washable pencil; make a series of multiple circles for the lot of Fabric Yo-Yos you wish to make. Cut out the fabric circles with sharp scissors or better still, a rotary cutter.
4. Once you have all your fabric circles cut, prepare to do the stitching. Outa-Africa uses a double thread to ensure lasting quality and consistency. Make a solid knot at the end of your cotton. Fold a 2mm (.07inch) piece, and sew a small hem all the way around the perimeter of the fabric. I use a longer needle so that the Yo-Yo's material can be stacked onto the needle. This method saves time as you need only stack twice to finish the Yo-Yo.
5. Pull the thread tight to gather the fabric into a ball. Tie another knot to prevent the gather unraveling. Pass the cotton through the completed yo yo and cut the remaining thread off.
6.Shape the yo yo into a flat circle with the gathered hole in the middle and Voila your Fabric Yo-Yo!
