My name is Matt Carter, mbcartersales. eBay My World Page.
I sell eBooks and software on eBay. I have been doing it full time since December of 2007.
90% of new eBook sellers quit within the first 90 days. Many for different reasons...but I have found some that are universal and have nearly driven me out of selling eBooks on eBay. I hope that by sharing a few of the troubles I went through, you can avoid them and be one of the 10% that continues on and makes a full time living selling eBooks on eBay. I wish I would have followed these 6 steps before I started :)
1.) Research EVERYTHING First. Make sure you understand all the aspects of selling eBooks on eBay. I would suggest you start by reading the 90 Day PowerSeller Challenge. (get it and 9 other eBooks free by signing up for my newsletter...just visit My About Me Page here on eBay)
2.) Have A Working Knowledge Of eBay. Familiarize yourself with all the rules and fees. Don't start selling until you can do basic HTML work. If you have no idea what that is...its ok. It sounds worse than it is. You should understand how to make sales pages, links, and use templates in some form of HTML editor. I would suggest a beginners HTML eBook (get it and 9 other eBooks free by signing up for my newsletter...just visit My About Me Page here on eBay)
3.) Buy QUALITY Website Hosting. Do not "start out" by emailing your eBooks by hand. Get QUALITY hosting and a domain name that matches or mirrors your user name and/or eBay store name. My user name in eBay is mbcartersales, my eBay store is MBCarterBooks, and my domain is MBCarterBooks as well. In just under 3 months, I have switched hosting 3 times now. That almost made me quit. Don't make that mistake. Get a quality company with REAL 24/7 support. Pay a little more for it...it is worth it.
4.) Make A Plan And Stick To It. Don't keep changing niches, products, and ideas with every new eBay guru that promises to increase your sales. Pick your plan and do it. You will never get anywhere if you keep starting over and over and over.
5.) Make Money. Quit spending your PayPal balance on eBay or other places online. Have a budget before you start selling for products, graphics, templates, and such. Then do not spend a dime until you hit PowerSeller. Read more about getting distracted with this post Don't Get Distracted on My eBay Blog
6.) Make Friends/Mentors. Make yourself a nice group of friends and mentors. It is so nice to have 3-4 different people in your "think tank" doing the same thing you are doing....giving all of you better ideas and plans. It has really helped me through some tough spots
I wish you great success in selling eBooks on eBay
