Looking for ways to decorate your child's room?  Here's a list of 51 ways to do just that.  Even if you only select one or two ideas, the room can seem fresh and new. 

1. Update the theme of the room with a new TV or movie character that the child likes.
2. Extend the theme to all parts of the room, through rugs, window treatments, wall treatments, lighting, and furniture. 
3. Have your child create artwork to hang on their walls or display their awards from school, sports or any other extra-curricular activity.
4. Use throw pillows to make the bed inviting and comfortable.  You can also use them to decorate the play area. 
5. Frame words or letters, if they are just learning to read, and pair them with pictures of what they represent.  Cut out pictures from magazines or create your own.
6. Repaint the walls to match the bedroom theme. 
7. Paint the bedroom's ceiling with a design such as the night sky or a freehanded mural.  You can also hire a professional artist to paint the mural. 
8. Use a wallpaper border to carry on the bedroom theme.
9. If your child loves to draw, paint the bottom half of their walls with chalkboard paint.  This paint can be easily bought at your local home improvement store and your child will be able to draw, write and color to their heart's content. 
10. Use mirrors to increase the reflected light and add more depth to the room. 
11. If you're going to paint, add depth.  Use wooden letters or designs that will stand out from the wall and create texture.

21. Sheer curtains are ideal because they don't block much light but still provide privacy.  If you can't find the color you're looking for, you can dye them in the washing machine.  Look for the supplies at your arts and crafts store.

37. Let the child create light catchers by making their own stained glass panels.  The supplies can be found at your local arts and crafts store.
38. If your child likes to read in bed, be sure to have a light on the night table or a wall fixture just above the bed.  Instead of just an ordinary light, try a book-themed lamp or one that's decorated with their favorite characters. 
39. Try rope lights for accenting the room.  They come in a variety of different colors and are very versatile. 
40. If you don't want to install a new overhead light, try a floor lamp.  They provide a great deal of light and are not overly bright. 
41. Make the room appear larger by getting rid of clutter, but be sure that the child's toys, CD's and games are easily accessible and aren't packed away.
