Following is a simple list of the the 5 things I like and 5 things I dislike about my Treo 700 W

Likes:

  • voice dialing capability is pretty amazing. Just say the name, like john smith, and the computer says to you, "Call John Smith at home, mobile or work?" I say, "Home" and it dials the number in a second. Excellent for dialing while driving.
  • Programmable Keys: Palm lets the user assign various programs to a few open buttons on your phone, so that when you touch the button the phone does what you want. I assigned my camera to one of the buttons on the side, so when i hit it, it opens my camera. Hit it again, and you take a picture. It couldn't be easier to set up and to use.
  • MP3 Player: With a 1 or 2 gigabyte memory card, you can store and listen to thousands of songs using the familiar Windows Media Player, whenever you want. Throw away the IPOD. You can find memory cards on sale from 15$-100$, depending on the website you go to. The $15.00 ones are usually on sale, work fine, and have no brand name on them.
  • Video Player: Yes, you can watch videos stored on your cards, or live TV and stream casts. I watched The World Cup, live, on my phone.
  • Back Up Device for your PC: You can use the USB and plug your phone into you laptop or desktop, and drag and drop files from your main computer onto the storage card, and use your phone as a mini back up device, so you always have a safe copy of important files, saved forever on a tiny storage card. Do you know how many word documents or photos you can store on a 2 gigabyte card? A lot.
Dislikes
  • Sensitive Screen: When you talk on the phone, my cheek sometimes hits the screen and launches some application, like my contacts, or my calendar, and causes the computer sometimes to freeze.
  • It freezes a lot: Anytime you do more than one instruction too fast, it will freeze. This means that if you are surfing the web, and you close explorer and open your e mail too fast (without letting one finish), it will freeze up.
  • Small Keys: I almost never use the built in keyboard, because the keys are tiny, almost impossible to use. I prefer to tap on the typewriter keyboard on the screen.
  • Can not adjust memory: The Treo does this automatically, but it doesn't let the user adjust the memory, so that you can devote more memory to web surfing, and less to storage, or vice versa. Most Pocket PC's let you do this.
  • Bluetooth Slow to find: When you start a blue tooth device, it doesn't do a good job of automatically finding it. You have to do quite a lot of clicking to actually set up a ear piece. It really makes it a hassle to use a ear piece, so I don't use it very much.
