5 Ways to Improve Reaction Time/Coordination
Reaction time, hand eye, whatever you call it, it’s very important for every day life and sports performance. Below are five easy ways to increase reaction time/coordination.
1. Buy a Reaction Ball: Reaction balls are balls that have little lumps all over them causing them to bounce in random directions. Not only can using a reaction ball help increase reaction time, but they can also provide a pretty decent workout once you become more accustomed to them.
2. Balloon Kicks: Fill a balloon and try to keep it in the air for as long as possible just by kicking it with your feet. You can make this more challenging by adding obstacles to the surrounding area.
3. No Look Tennis Ball: Put on a ball glove and kneel in front of a wall. Have a partner stand behind you and bounce the tennis ball off the wall. Your goal is to catch the ball before it touches the ground. You can only use the hand that the ball glove is on.
4. Hacky Sack: Hacky sack can be done with a hacky sack or with a soccer ball. Many sports players use a soccer ball to increase coordination. You can play by yourself or with friends. If you have a training partner you can take turns going solo and have the inactive partner shout out commands i.e. Hop on one foot, switch legs, catch the hacky sack, etc…
5. Ball Throw: Close your eyes and stand 10-15 feet away from your partner. Your partner will shout go as he is throwing the ball at you. Open your eyes and try and catch it. You can make this even more difficult by using coloured balls where each colour represents a different action i.e. dodge, strike, kick, slap left, slap right, catch with right hand, catch with left hand, catch with both hands, etc…
