5 Ways to Get Your Family Active

Here are 5 easy ways to get your family active.
- Build a Home Gym: Home Gyms are a great, inexpensive alternative to a gym membership. Set up workout times for each family member and help motivate/encourage each member of the family.
- Buy a Dog: And then walk the Dog 3 times a week as a family. Walking for 1 hour 3 times a week can burn up to 1500 calories. If you combine walking 3 times a week with working with 3 days of weight lifting you can burn up to 3500 calories a week, the equivalent of 1 pound of fat.
- Buy Sports Equipment: Buy a Basketball net, build a soccer goal, buy some road hockey equipment, and set aside one day a week where your family plays the sport of choice for at least an hour. Work your way up to 2 hours or more. Just make sure you stay hydrated.
- Start a Neighbourhood Sports League: Contact your neighbours, friends, and family and set up teams. Set one day a week to hold a sports tournament. It can be road hockey, lawn bowling, basketball, touch football, or any other sport you can think of. This is for fun; so don’t let your competitive juices take over. The key here is to get outside and get some exercise, not to be the best team on the block.
- Buy a Ping-Pong/Air Hockey Table: Although not the best workout you can get, Indoor Ping Pong/Air Hockey can get the heart pumping. 1 Hour of Ping Pong can burn up to 400 calories and 1 hour of Air Hockey can burn up to 250 calories, plus it’s really fun.
