3 DIMENSIONAL QUILTS: ORIGAMI QUILTS - Lotus flower

3 dimensional quilts, those with depth to the design such as Cathedral Window quilts or Trapunto or applique have been around for a long time.

A fairly new innovation, only over the past 5 or 6 years is the origami quilt. These lovely quilts incorporate folded pieces of material to resemble flowers. There are some wonderful instruction books available for this type of quilt that can explain it so much better than I can.

FANTASTIC FABRIC FOLDING by REBECCA WAT is the book I chose and I am so glad I did!

This book is available on eBay but not from me - I wouldn't part with my copy for the world!!

If you are interested in adding this beautiful technique to your repertoire of quilting skills then you could do far worse than this particular how to book. It has many other designs too such as roses and pinwheels so it is well worth what  you pay for it.

Here is a  block that I recently completed by following the instructions in this book. It is called the Lotus flower.

     Once you have mastered the technique of folding and unfolding and tacking down the tips of the flowers you will find out just how easy they really are to make.
