25 FUN THINGS KIDS CAN DO WITH FLOWERS

  1. Turn beautiful flowers into a fancy necklace by learning the Hawaiian craft of lei making.  Aloha!
  2. Add a decorative touch to any room by removing the stems from flowers and placing the flower tops into a bowl of water.
  3. Make that big heavy book on your shelf even more useful...place flowers between paper towels and waxed paper then press them between the pages.
  4. Pick a few wildflowers and decorate yourself with them.  Place them in your hair, in pockets, behind your ear, in buttonholes.
  5. Believe it or not, some flowers are actually edible (which means you can eat them.)  Find out which ones they are and get munching.  Happy Eating!
  6. An empty vase is a sad vase.  Buy or pick a variety of flowers and set them into one.  What a lovely improvement!
  7. Go for a walk, but don't forget your camera!  Get up close and take photos of all the fancy flowers along your path.
  8. Do some research and figure out the best way to dry flowers.  Then attempt to master the art and make a few projects from your dried creations.
  9. Get a great book on flowers from the library and learn the scientific names and species for your favorite flowers and flowering plants.
  10. Beautifully-colored flowers can make beautifully colored dyes.  Learn to extract the colors from flowers and dye some fabric.
  11. Artistry in flowers.  Sit down at a table with paper, crayons and markers and draw your favorite flower scene.
  12. Be like the famous artist Monet.  An easel, some paper and a variety of paint colors can make a beautiful flower painting.
  13. Take a look around your house for things you can use and recycle into crafts.  Flowers can be created in felt, craft foam, paper, chenille stems, fabrics...the list goes on and on.
  14. Learn the proper way to arrange flowers and spend all afternoon trying some creations of your own.
  15. Make your garden the talk of the town by buying a potted flower and adding it to your garden.  As the old saying goes, the more the merrier.
  16. Follow our lead and get creative.  Creat a flower calendar using the birthday flowers for each month.
  17. Take a trip to a flower shop and see what's blooming.  While you are there, ask a few questions and learn a little something.
  18. Pick a bouquet of flowers and present them to a friend or family member.  That is a sure way to brighten someone's day!
  19. Gather flowers, leaves and ribbon and create a one-of-a-kind wreath you will be proud to call your own.
  20. Someone's birthday coming up?  A holiday?  Then a flower gift basket could be the answer.  Get a basket, tie a beautiful ribbon around it and place a flowering plant inside.  Wow!
  21. With the pressed leaves you made earlier, decorate gift cards, stationery and envelopes.  The receiver of such lovely mail will definitely appreciate your hard work.
  22. Get in the kitchen and bake something.  You can make a cake or cupcakes and decorate them with real flowers or icing.  Yummy!
  23. Nowadays, silk flowers look a lot like real flowers--see if you can fool your friends and family.  Mkae a guessing game out of it and have some fun.
  24. With your parent's permission, go online and do a search for flower screen savers.  View a few and download your favorite.
  25. Visit a local botanical society and see what flowers they have on display.  Some of them may surprise you!

IF YOU HAVE A "GREEN THUMB" AND WANT TO SHARE IT WITH YOUR CHILDREN OR GRANDCHILDREN, THIS IS A PERFECT WAY FOR THEM TO LEARN.
