After many years of buying, selling, painting, and wargaming with 25/28mm Napoleonics, I have probably viewed first hand about every brand of figure available, by numerous manufacturers, on the market today. This is a guide to those starting out in the collecting of 25/28mm Napoleonics. This is not an attempt to sort out scales or ways of measuring figures, but rather a 'personal observation' of  the various brands of  figures and how they 'match up' when placed side by side on the wargaming table. This guide can also be used for other periods like the American Civil War, for example, since most manufacturers produce figures for many periods and the scale is usually consistent throughout each manufacturers'  25mm or 28mm ranges. The following are catagories for 'match up' consideration:

A. 25mm:  Hinchliffe, Essex, Sash and Sabre, Bicorne, and Militron.

B. Large 25mm:  Wargames Foundry, Redoubt, Old Glory, Firing Line, and Foremost.

C. 28mm:  Connoisseur, Elite, Front Rank, Britiania, and Lancashire.

Even though, each brand may be a tad different in height, it is certainly acceptable to do a little creative basing to raise up the shorter  figures. Additionally, mixing catagory B with catagory C or A with B will produce satisfactory results; the mixing of  C with A is where noticable size differences result

Miniature Figurines (minifigs) are another brand that cannot be overlooked , but personally, I would  put them in a catagory by themself, only because they don't seem to 'match up' well with the newer lines of figures now available. Although, when well painted and used exclusively to comprise both opposing armies on the wargames table they can be quite appealling visually.
