Hello Everyone,
This simple guide is to advise you as to what is currently happening at the U.S. Mint. As of today March 2009 the US Mint has halted production of the American Gold & Silver Eagles due to a shortage of Bullion. As stated on their website the US Mint is having problems obtaining 1oz Gold and Silver blanks to produce these coins and thus has stopped production of these two popular issues. According to a US Mint spokesperson they are working on obtaining more bullion but until that happens this program has been cancelled. There are some of the Silver Eagles in UNCIRCULATED condition that were released prioe to the halting of production and these are expected to continue to rise in price the longer production is being halted.
It is in our opinion that if you can obtain these coins at fair price then do so as it is not impossible that te mint will not produce these the remainder of the year. As most of you know who have bought from the mint they do some really wierd things at times. A fair price for these issues at this time is listed below, remember the prices below are based on retail prices and not wholesale.
1oz American Silver Eagles - $20 Low End to $30 on the High End as of March 25, 2009
1oz American Gold Eagles - Expect to pay somewhere around $40 to $60 above spot gold price for that day.
Hope you find this guide helpful and we are always here to lend a hand if you need one.
Thanks and Happy collecting.
