2007 American Eagle 10th Anniv Platinum Reverse Proof
On December 13, 2007 the US Mint released a special 2 coin set to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of their American Platinum Coin Program. This set consists of a regular 2007 American Platinum 1/2 oz $50 Proof Coin and a special enhanced reverse 2007 American Platinum 1/2 oz $50 coin. The first-time offered reverse proof version of the American Eagle Platinum Coin features a frosted background and an enhanced brilliant, mirror-like finish on the raised elements of the coin. This is an enhanced reverse proof version because it is not an exact opposite polish of the regular proof version. The design elements on the enhanced reverse proof platinum coin were strategically selected to feature the proof, mirror-like finish in contrast to frosted background design elements to enhance the entire image.
The reverse proof carries the "W" mint mark, indicating their production at the United States Mint at West Point. State-of-the-art technology was used to craft the dies for the reverse proof coins.
On its obverse the reverse platinum coin depicts Lady Liberty; the reverse represents the Executive Branch of the government and depicts a bald eagle with its wings spread wide to represent freedom with a shield at the ready to enforce the laws that guarantee those freedoms.
The only way to get the reverse proof is through the special 10th Anniversary two coin set, which is limited to 30,000 sets.
