     2006 W American Silver Eagles

I'm trying to write this guide as a helpful way to inform folks as to the differences in the so called labels on the third party slabs . The two we'll talk about today are NGC and PCGS , in relation to just the uncirculated versions of the 2006 W silver Eagles.

To be short and not too confusing , I will explain to the best of my knowdledge , that there are just two  Silver uncirculated  issues for 2006 .

First -- The regular issue we have all become used to over the past 20 or 21 years . That is , simply put , a bullion coin , nothing really special , other than the sheer beauty of it .

Next we have the Three Coin 20th Anniversary Set with a new Silver eagle in it . It is an uncirculated coin with a little extra added to it to make it different . The US Mint used a burnished planchette , or if you will , a little extra polishing , to give it a little different shine ! Then after announcing this beautiful set , the Mint decided to really devalue this set by selling it in a separate package , (the Z6F's ) . That's ok , but it's still the same 2006 w coin that's in the 20th Anniversary set , and in the Two Coin GOLD and SILVER set ! They are all the same coin .

Now comes the fun part . Start with the 2 peice Silver and Gold set . NGC labels it with a bluish label and says "From the Gold and Silver Set ".This coin is selling for far more than the 20th Anniversary Set , or the blue labeled early releases. Then NGC labels the 20th anniversary set with a black label to make it different . Then NGC has another blue color for " Early Releases " , which are the Silver Eagles you ordered from the US Mint , in the blue box . ( Again , the Z6F's ).

PCGS does it a little different . First they just put it on the label of the slab . Examples are as follows : For the 20th Anniversary Set , they simply put " EAGLE 20th Anniversary ". Then for the 2006 W that was ordered separate from the mint , Just "2006 W " .PCGS also still has the First Strike designation ( NGC's Early Release ).

PCGS is still a bit higher than NGC , so you have to let your concious be your guide , as well as your wallet .Just don't be confused by all the hype . Remember , there are only 2 kind of  uncirculated 2006 Silver Eagles .One 2006 W is no more valuable than the other . The standard bullion coin , and the new 2006 W Silver Eagle , using the burnished planchettes . The 2006 W's are all the same . Hope this helps someone in making decisions about buying .
