What are 2001 SP PREVIEW Golf GOLD /250 and RED /50 parallels and how do I get them?

2001 SP Preview Golf GOLD (numbered to 250) and RED (numbered to 50) are parallels to the regular cards in the SP Authentic PREVIEW Set released by Upper Deck.  The set contains 60 cards and in turn 60 Gold parallel cards numbered to 250 and 60 red parallel cards numbered to 50.  These SP preview cards can be found in SP Preview packs only.

You can get the SP Preview packs from 2001 Upper Deck Golf Premier Edition Rack Packs ONLY or you can get them in lots of 1000 or even sometimes 5000 from various eBay sellers that have done the work by opening the rack packs for you and separating the 2001 Upper Deck Golf packs from the 2001 SP Preview Packs.

A case of rack packs has 12 boxes of 8 rack packs in it.  With one SP Preview pack per rack pack that means you will get 96 SP Preview packs per case.  If you are very lucky you can score 1 or 2 gold parallel cards per case and maybe one red parallel per case.  There are no definitive odds on the frequency of gold and red parallel cards but from my experience they SHOULD come one gold per 300 cards or 100 packs and one red per 1500 cards or 500 packs.

The gold parallel cards can vary in price from $2.00 to $50 depending on the player.  The exception is Tiger Woods whose #51 Ambassador of gold gold parallel can range from $80 - $160 and the famous #21 rookie can range from $180 to $350!

The red are much harder to pull and in turn as a rule of thumb, 5 to 10 times more expensive that the gold parallels.  It is very rare to see one go for less than $10.  Most range from $10 to $100.  The average from $20 to $40.  The exception again is the #51 Ambassador of Golf red parallel of Tiger Woods which rarely, if ever, sells less than $450 and rarely surpasses $800.  The big daddy is the #21 red parallel of Tiger Woods numbered to 50 which rarely never sells less than $1200 and can sell up to $2000 or more!  The typical sales price is around $1,500.  The last one on eBay sold for $1735 in July 2007

The following is a quick guide to fair pricing if you are looking for a good deal for the big four Tiger Woods parallels.  These are average across bad and good sales markets for all seasons:

#21 Gold parallel Tiger Woods /250 a good deal is under $200 for NRMT-MT average condition.

#51 Gold parallel Tiger Woods Ambassador of Golf /250 good deal is under $100. Remember this is tough to find in good condition because of the black border at the top!

#21 Red Parallel Tiger Woods /50 a good deal is $1200 - $1500 but typical is around $1600 because believe it or not loose packs of SP Preview can be searched and, therefore, the odds of finding one of these is skewed horribly.  They are all probably sitting in a warhouse somewhere like at the end of the movie Indiana Jones.  It took me 3 years to find one and I have opened 20,000 packs and never pulled one.

#51 Red parallel Tiger Woods Ambassador of Golf /50 a good deal is less than $500. A typical fair deal is $600.   I have actually pulled one of these from a pack from a loose case of 1,000 packs.  If you want to find a dealer that does not search their packs buy from sportsdeals4U.  To my knowledge they do no search as I pulled one of these from their packs and my friend pulled a #21 red parallel from their cases.

Good luck in getting these cards!  I have two gold sets completed and I only need one more card to complete a 4 year long quest to complete the red parallel set.  I am really proud of that.  It is a B to complete.  Good Luck!   Here are a few pictures of some red SP Preview parallel cards.
