Your 20 Point Checklist for Ensuring Perfume Authenticity

  1. Observe the appearance of the plastic wrapping. Note its thickness and clarity, its overall quality. Brittle or cloudy cellophane is a red flag!
  2. Note the condition of the plastic seal, if any. Observe for any indications of heavy bonding material such as glue, tape or rubber. If it exists, you may have a fake.
  3. Look at the outside of the box, noting its overall quality. Is the paper bond (its weight) of the box, as well as its color and alignment of edges, perfect? Does it appear to meet the standards of a designer label?
  4. Read all the text and look for misspellings, grammar, punctuation or other errors. All copy ad print should be completely error free. You will never see an authentic designer perfume box with a misspelling or other print error.
  5. Look for control numbers, batch numer, or serial numbers. Make sure you can find one. You can even inquire of your label's batch number with an email off to your designer's contact web address in case you have suspicians.
  6. Observe the packing material inside the box, again checking for weight of material, color, and appropriate fit. It should all be snapped together tightly. If material inside the box is loose due to incorrect sizing, then you have cause for concern.
  7. Consider the bottle's shape, height, width, and design carefully. Is the bottle what you expect?
  8. Consider also the quality of the bottle glass. Check for thickness, clarity, scratches, scuffs, or other signs of imperfections. Does the glass contain air bubbles or discolorations?
  9. Look at the bottle's cap, again checking the color, shape and quality of the molding.
  10. Check the nozzle head, again assessing its overall quality. Look at its color, smoothness, and check its function. Does it spray with ease?
  11. Examine the nozzle's uptake tube, again assessing its overall quality by checking its thickness, length and color. The tube should extend to the bottom of the liquid, should not be detached from the head, and should not allow air to leak when the the nozzle is sprayed.
  12. Observe the quality of the primary label on the bottle, if one exists. Check to make sure there are no print errors, and that the positioning is appropriate for the brand, and that any expected special effects such as embossing, color, or etching are present and look real.
  13. Observe all other labels, particularly the bottom or sides. Again look for perfection in positioning, effects, color, and spelling.
  14. Look for a bar code or UPC number, if one should exist.
  15. Consider the fragrance's color. Does it appear even, or is it murky, cloudy, or even contain sentiment or particles?
  16. Feel the fragrance between your fingers for excessive oiliness, a common sign of a fake perfume.
  17. Smell the fragrance, of course, and note any signs of unusual or unexpected odors
  18. Note how long the fragrance last, using this guide to test its persistance:
     * Eau De Cologne, up to 2 hours
     * Eau De Toilette, approximately 2 - 3 hours
     * Eau De Parfum, approximately 4 - 6 hours

    19. Look for any signs your skin is irritated. If you aren't already allergic to perfumes and fragrances your skin should remain clear, free from itchiness, rash and blemishes.20
    20. Verify the seller is reputable. Attempt to contact the seller if you have any concerns or questions. If the seller does not respond, or responds negatively, this is a red flag that           you may have received a fake.

I hope this information was useful. Please send your comments or questions to support@venusshoe.com, or contact seller venusshoe. If you found this guide useful, please let the eBay community know by voting below. Thank you!
