When buying the first Gen iphone you may see firmware 1.x.x or 2.x.x 1 is better for some while 2 is better for others.

1.1.4 Theres no reason to run 1.1.3 update to 4 if you havent already. This firmware is good for an advanced user or a hacker you can go to ziphone.org and jailbreak without issues.

The CONS you lose the app store.

PROS you get installer with unlimited free downloads and tons more software for the iphone. You can also change the theme of the phone.No risk of breaking your phone with jailbreak.

2.x.x Is for the simple phone user with no real want to do anything special other than its a phone that surfs the net. jailbreaking is possible but harder and you run a risk of breaking your phone.

Pros apps store has apps like installer without jailbreak.

Cons apps that are good cost and cant run in the background or run while the screen is turned off.Very hard to jailbreak and most themes and games wont work.
