Hello,
If you are thinking of buying unopened packs of 86/87 fleer basketball, you should be very careful if you intend to try your luck and pull a Jordan..... Even if a pack is authenticated, it can be a dud.
The cards in this set are not randomly distributed.... If you open a pack, you'll see cards 3,4,5,6, etc.... and there are roughly 3 jordans per box, so once you can figure out the sequence, it is 'easy' to pull the Jordans out of an untampered box. Also, the front of the packs are somewhat transparent, and with a magnifying glass and some light, it's possible to figure out what the top card inside a pack. So, there are few reasons why you should careful if you're buying these packs to open them in hopes of a Jordan, and cannot afford a whole unsearched box.
What is to say that some of the packs for sale on Ebay aren't the untouched leftovers from a box that has already been picked over? These packs can still be unopened, still get a high grade, but carry a substantially lower probability of containing a Jordan than the 1/11 ratio that is commonly advertised.
This is not to say that grading is a scam, that all packs are bad, that you can't pull a Jordan from a pack you buy on Ebay. I'm just saying that you shouldn't be mad at anyone but yourself if you buy 15 indivdually graded/authenticated packs of 86/87 fleer on Ebay and still don't pull a Jordan
