Women want to be taken serious...In the 1980's, women were known as "POWER WOMEN" They are now the baby boomers. If you watch Working Girl, you will see the Power Suit. It is sophisticated... It does NOT give an impression that one is a "Floosy" in business... It says: "I am a SERIOUS business person." Nowadays, we see a lot of chamisoles (like bedroom looking nightie tops) That was a TOTAL No-No, in the 80's. Tess, in the Working Girl (movie) says: "If you want to be taken serious, you must have a serious persona." This will be hard to grasp for a really "sexy" female business type. I personally do not take a person serious, if they don't dress serious.. that's me. A WOMAN IS running for PRESIDENT, Thus, Women are going to WANT to be taken SERIOUS...
Liz Claiborne, she was a MASTER with Power Suits.. there were so many, in that day, it was even popular, in the 1980's to wear a blazer type jacket, out "Clubbing" Usually it was shiny.. or had a nice print on it. many women utilized the suit jacket, and wore a sexy dress underneath.. It left MUCH to the imagination... It gave an illusion that you were business, then in a flash, you were a "Party-Girl" Many times, underneath this Suit Jacket, was the CUTEST little tank dress!! ADORABLE! Women back then, wore flats, or 2 inch heels, it was ALL about comfort. So, a gal would have a GREAT Suit jacket, and a KICK BUTT little Zip up the front spandex/style, show your back off dress... Pumps were a rage, but MOST gals just wore 2 inch heels., (usually black pumps.)
Contempo was the PLACE in the 1980's to get that FAB little dress! Petries was also a BIG place..One could get ANYTHING at Petries.. Both stores closed...Which was SAD! The Limited ALSO, sold GREAT things, in the 1980's, and they were QUALITY!! A LOT of things were made here in the USA.. There was a lot of pride in the USA at that time.... Women also looked TOTALLY glamorous.. It was more to be Glamorous, than just sexy.. Christie Brinkley ALWAYS had an air of radiance, and Glamour.. She really did not come across as "Sexy" most of the models of that day, looked Glam.. it was just more important. Patrick Nagel, he did the Epitomy of the Women of the 80's, and became a world renown artist, so did Rosamond.. Nagel had the Hair down PERFECT, most business women had a definitive asymetrical look, it was rad..it was cosmic, it was TOTALLY KILLER AWESOME! Browse through the 1980's Vintage clothing, and then go and see Patrick Nagel, and Rosamond (Artists)...they defined what the 80's woman was~ SHEER GLAM & NO NONSENSE..... POWER SUITS ARE BACK TO STAY.
