If you were alive in the 1970's then you will remember:
- In 1970, the average price for a new home was $23,400.00. But by 1979 the average new home price increased to a whopping $58,500.00!
- In 1970 the average salary was $9,350.00 but in 1979 it was $17,550.00.
- The cost of gas in 1970 was $0.36 per gallon raising to $0.85 per gallon by 1979.
- 70's you could buy an 8 track player for about $39.00. You could also buy a CB radio for $147.00.
- You could get medium sized eggs for only 25 cents per dozen in the 70's, and a jar of Miracle Whip would cost you $1.09.
- Taken from a classified ad in 1974: Country Ranch with 10 acres, 3 bedrooms, large barn, fruit and oak trees in Vallejo, California $52,900.00--- WOW! Do you have any idea what that would cost today? Millions!
- In 1973 the allied forces were pulled out of Vietnam after being there for 10 years.
- Woman's rights played a very active role in this decade... all stemming from the controversial birth control pill.
- Waterbeds made their appearance into many households during this decade.
- Music icons such as: Pink Floyd, Yes, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Queen, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, and Abba were adored by millions. Disco also made it's debut.
- Famous movie stars were: Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Al Pacino, Clint Eastwood, Burt Reynolds, Woody Allen, Barbara Streisand.
- Rubiks Cube was introduced to the masses along with Matchbox Cars.
- In the 70's, homes were introduced to computers thanks to advancing technology. The first video games also started to make an apperance like Pong.
- Although invented earlier, microwave ovens became more popular in homes.
- Some of the following were either invented or first used in the 70's: barcodes, e-mail, floppy dics, genetic engineering, the inkjet printer, in-vitro fertilization, the micoprocessor, MRI's, and the first US Space Station.
