1960's Pop Culture: Remember When?

If you were alive in the 60's, you will remember:

  1. If you bought a new house in this decade, it would have cost you an average of $12,700.00 in the beginning of the decade or $15,500.00 at the end of the decade.
  2. The average income in the beginning of the decade was $5,315.00. By the end of the decade it was $8,540.00.
  3. In 1960 the price of gas was $0.25 per gallon. By 1969 it was $0.35per gallon.
  4. The average cost of a new car in 1960 was $2,600.00. By 1969 the average price of a new car was $3,270.00.
  5. In the 60's the automatic can opener was a new household item and could be bought for an average price of $8.88. You could also now buy an electric blanket for $9.94.
  6. You could buy a brand new Ford Mustand Hardtop 2 Door for $2,368.00.
  7. Oranges cost $0.89 for two dozen. 
  8. This decade was shadowed with the Vietnam War. It also narrowly missed having it's first nuclear world war in 1962 with the Cuban Missle Crisis.
  9. Inventions such as: The first cash dispenser (ATM), computer mouse, fiber optics, the heart pacemaker, portable calculators and cassette tapes were introduced.
  10. This decade loved and lost Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy.
  11. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Grateful Dead, & Led Zepplin were just a few of the big rock 'n' roll bands of this decade. Woodstock had it's first start and would be immortalized for future generations.
  12. Big actors of the decade were: John Wayne, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman, Julie Andrews, Rock Hudson, and Doris Day. 
  13. In 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were landed on the moon and returned safely back to earth. It was because of this historical event that we will always remember the immortal words: " One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind ".
  14. Swanson Frozen TV Dinners were in many households.
  15. Children played with toys such as: The Easy Bake Oven, Etch-a-Sketch, Twister, and GI Joe's.
