These two coins (even in MS 65) are notoriously known for their weak strikes on the obverse. Skirt lines up Libertys left leg are seldom present and the left arm and hand are usually very weak. Additionally, the reverse center of the eagle and thigh are typically weak.
All this stems from the metal in the planchet not filling the complete die at the San Francisco Mint. With the high point of the obverse in the center almost coinciding with the high point in the center of the reverse, the usual result was a weak strike on one or both sides.
Here's the neat info. Interestingly enough, there are some strong strikes of these two issues. And, for some reason, these do not always command a premium over the weak strikes. BUT, if one goes to a large coin show where you can maybe look at 20 to 100 of these, you will probably find that there are some strong strikes and viola, they may not be the highest price.
Recommendation: Be patient in your hunt and you will probably find a nice strong strike of each of these for your collection.
