The 1925 Stone Mountail Memorial Half dollar was issued to Commemorate the begining of the carving of Stone Mountain in the state of Georgia on June 18th 1923, and to honor President Warren G Harding under whose administration the work was begun.
The coin was sold as a fund raiser. The coins obverse depicts General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson and General Robert E. Lee on horseback, but not confederate President Jefferson Davis, who appears on the memorial. The 13 stars in the upper field of the obverse represent each southern state that voted ordinances of secession.
