We have all heard people say “You can sell anything on eBay!” which leads to the impression that making money on eBay is easy as pie. Unfortunately, this is very far from the truth. To be successful on eBay and on the Worldwide Web in general--one has to be highly dedicated to their business and especially to their customers' needs and wants. The following tips are what you need in order to be successful online.

Improve Your Product Presentation

Online buyers cannot see or touch the items that you are selling. A good listing should include multiple, high quality pictures of the item. To save money on adding additional pictures, I recommend that you upload your pictures to (PhotoBucket.com) and then paste the pictures into the Body of the Item Description. Photo Bucket is FREE to use. Your pictures should be in focus and should show your item from several different angles. Any damage of the item should be recorded.

Your item description should also include the color of the item, size in inches and also in centimeters for selling to buyers in other countries. You should also supply a shipping charge for each item and offer multiple shipping discounts to encourage buyers to buy more than 1 item from you. For example, you can charge $8.99 to ship the first item and $2 for each additonal item.

International shipping vaires from country to country--so I recommend that you ask the international buyer to contact to you first before placing their order, so you can give them a shipping quote. Lastly, always include mention all of the types of payments that you accept.

Build a Brand That People Can Trust 

Open an eBay Store. Typically eBay store owners sell up to 25% more items than those who sell only auctions or fixed price listings. Store inventory can be listed for a fraction of the price of auction listings- giving your eBay business an exceptional way of vastly expanding the number of items that you are selling. Create an eBay About Me Page

Each eBay user can create an About Me Page. You will be able to present yourself as a reputable seller by having a Custom About Me Page that talks about you, your life, and the products that you sell. The eBay About Me Page is like a FREE Advertisment for your eBay business. An About Me Page will make your business stand out from the rest. Search Engines like Yahoo, Google, MSN, and AOL will pick up on the keywords that use on this page as well as on all of your store pages.

Up Sell Your Customers

Place links to other eBay items inside of your eBay auction listings to drive more traffic to your store where your customers can make additional purchases.

Email Marketing

Acquiring customers can be expensive. Marketing to your past customer is an extremely effective way of increasing your sales. Consider starting an eBay Store Newsletter to promote new items to your customers. You can also save your customers' emails in your personal address book and email them this way as well.

Keep track of all of your customers' email addresses and email them with Special Promotions and NEW Items that you are selling which will help you to increase your sales.

Marketing Your eBay Business For FREE

As an eBay seller it is important to make use of all the opportunities available to drive traffic to your products and to your eBay store or eBay shop. You can add links to your eBay store by adding links to ALL of your eBay store pages and listings to encourage your buyers to browse your eBay store more.

Cross Promote With Other eBay Sellers

There is a place to make arrangements with other eBay sellers to cross promote each other’s products under MANAGE MY STORE on eBay. Simply, email the eBay seller and ask them if they would like to cross-promote with you which is FREE to do. Many sellers will be happy to do it. Always make arrangements with sellers who sell complimentary products to what you are selling. For example, if you sell CDs and records--consider cross promoting with an eBay seller who sells DVDs and books, or other forms of entertainment, etc.

Optimize Your eBay Store for Search Engines (SEO)

Within all of your eBay store pages--be sure to use exceptional KEYWORDS that you think people will type into Search Engines in order to find your eBay store and your products. You can also apply Special Keywords and Keyword Phrases under MANAGE MY STORE in your eBay store. Also, you can make a feed file available for Shopping Comparison Sites.

Use Froogle

Froogle is Google’s Shopping Comparison Site. Froogle accepts fixed price products and unlike all of the other comparison sites--Froogle is FREE! Create a feed file which is basically a spreadsheet with product descriptions, product URLS, and image URLs of your eBay store items and submit your files to Froogle.

Use Online Shopping and Promoting Malls

There are several eBay Auction Promotion Websites which can be used to list your eBay store and items for FREE! A few of the most popular websites are ListMyStore.com  WheresYourBid.com   BidMySpace.com   AuctionBump.com   MySpace.com  and there are many more websites that I have listed on my About Me Page. Always Use the Correct Category

When selling your items--be sure to use the correct category because buyers will use these features to find your items.

Choose Your Keywords Carefully

To find items, buyers search on the keywords that you type into the Title of your Items and in the Item Description. Avoid using words like "L@@K or fabulous” as these are rarely searched upon. Use brand names as your keywords.

Use Enhanced Listing Features

These features will help to INCREASE YOUR SALES!

First photo (Free!) - increases chances of selling by 15%
Gallery - Typically sell for 12% more
Subtitle - Typically sell for 10% more

Remove Barriers by Always Closing the Sale

In general, the more information about your items and the more delivery and payment options that you offer to your buyers--the more likely that they will make a purchase from you. Also, by always displaying your store policies in all of your store pages and listings--this will prevent your buyers from emailing you with questions that you can give them the answers ahead of time on your custom eBay store pages and eBay listings.

Sell Internationally

Selling internationally, on average, sell for 16% more.

Accept Multiple Payment Methods

Offering a number of payment options reassures buyers. It is also becoming increasingly important to offer PayPal as a payment option. PayPal is extremely convenient and over 90% of eBay listings offer it as a method of payment.

Use Listing Software

Using listing and auction management software can speed up the process of listing items and managing auctions. eBay provides FREE eBay User tools such as Turbo Lister and Seller Manager.

Write New Rich Keyword Content

Always write new content whenever possible by blogging on eBay, writing guides and reviews on eBay, posting in eBay forums, eBay chatrooms, and blogging about your items on MySpace. The more unique and new content that you write--the better of a chance that Search Engines will pick up on your content that you have written. ***Please note that it does take time for the Search Engine spiders to find and crawl your eBay Store and all of the content that you have written, so you may not see an immediate rise in your ranking but it will come.
