This guide is dedicated to provide information about 18” Gotz Dolls.

I am offering this guide since I get asked quite often for information about the dolls that model my 18" American Girl Doll outfits. I hope you'll visit my  Debonair Designs in our eBay store – Tekay-intl.

My current model dolls I use are; Katie and Tess, (both from the Little Sisters Collection), Elisabeth and Emily, (both from the 2003 Precious Day Collection).  I use them to model the hand knitted outfits I design and knit using my own patterns to fit the popular 18” American Girl Dolls and similar sized dolls with the same articulated soft body such as the Gotz Precious Day and Little Sisters Collection..

These 18" Gotz dolls are from the well-respected German doll manufacturing company known as Gotz.  They share the same soft cloth body type as the American Girl doll, which is not surprising since Gotz created the American Girl doll for Pleasant Company and manufactured the dolls for them for many years. The arms and legs of these Gotz dolls are full vinyl and articulated at the top with ball joints in order to hold a pose and are made of quality vinyl.

  • Meet Tess - my daughter's doll, also modeling a new winter design for me
   - Katie & Tess shown here as part of the 'Little Sisters' trio.

Katie (pictured above left) is from the Gotz 'Little Sisters' collection.

Katie has strawberry blond hair and blue/gray eyes. She is one of a trio from this line that all share the same 'Mona Lisa Smile' but vary in hair and eye color; the other two dolls is this series are Tess, (pictured above), a brown eyed dark brunette, and Lily, a blue-eyed blond (see group photo above.)

These Little Sisters dolls were produced by Gotz, but were sold under another name 'Dolls Unlimited', a division of iDolls, in the years 2001 and 2002. The 'Little Sisters' are fully articulated having the ability to hold their position with ball joints in their arms and legs. They were made so they have a slightly pigeon toed stand and have beautiful open and close sleep eyes with soft eye lashes and high quality Kanekalon wigs. The identifying markings on the back of their neck is mold number 305/16. Their heads are attached to their bodies by string such as the American Girl dolls which probably reach their rear and their vinyl is thicker and softer than the newer American Girl dolls or newer Precious Day dolls..

Gotz used the same face mold for a new updated version  - 'Precious Day Collection' .
The 'Precious Day Dolls' have the exact same body as above with the exception of the pigeon toed stand. Although they share the same face mold as the 'Little Sisters Collection', the difference between the two lines is found in the hair.
Precious Day Dolls hair is not kanekalon but instead a synthetic hair that is machine rooted into the vinyl head and most often have some kind of bangs to cover the roots. Their identifying markings on the back of their neck is Gotz 305 and on some 305/16.

2003 Precious Day Collection

Meet Elisabeth - modeling a popular new design from my winter 2009 collection
  • Elisabeth (pictured above) has brunette rooted hair with brown eyes. Produced in the year 2003 – identifying markings on the back of neck - Gotz 305/16
The other dolls is this series for (2003 Precious Day Collection) are:
  •  Julia, (pictured below left) has red rooted hair with green eyes

  • and Jessica, (pictured above right) a rooted blond with blue eyes ~ photos added with kind permission of a fellow eBay member :)
Two other Gotz dolls were produced in 2003:
  •  Kimberly, an oriental doll with rooted dark brown hair and brown eyes who came wearing a pink jumper and white printed top, and
  • Alicia, an Hispanic doll with a darker complexion and black eyes; she wore a 3 piece casual suit. (both pictured below at right).
These updated versions had 2 or 3 piece outfits that were modern in design with all skirts or dresses. Each year Gotz changed their outfits with the original outfits having socks, shoes and dresses only.

(2003 Precious Day Collection)

Toward the end of 2003, Gotz added two more dolls: Ashley and Emily.
  •  Ashley, a rooted brunette with blue eyes, (pictured below left), who wore pink plaid capris and a light pink T shirt.
Meet Emily -  modeling a new design from my fall 2009 collection

  • and Emily, (pictured above left with Ashley) with a rare combination of rooted blond hair with brown eyes, who wore denim jeans with a T shirt featuring pink hearts and a hot pink nylon jacket. Emily was produced one time only in December of 2003 ~ not to be confused with Lily from the Little Sisters Collection..

Note:  A different face mold was used for the later 2004 and 2005 'Precious Day'  dolls - see the difference in my daughter's Jessica doll  - (pictured below). Jessica's identifying markings on back of neck - 120/16

- - Jessica (from the 2004 Precious Day Collection)

Please make note: I thought I would add this important information I have recently come to learn about:
There are a number of 18inch Gotz Dolls that are very similar to the ones I have wrote about here, except they do not share the same body type as the American Girl Dolls, in that they have 3/4 vinyl legs and arms, thus making them NON articulated. Known as Gotz Play Dolls ~ they are described by Gotz as Soft Bodied Standing dolls. They are very nice dolls but again are not articulated and were probably made before 2000 when the Gotz factory was still in operation in Rodental, Germany. These Standing dolls have smaller hands and feet, their hands tilt slightly upward whereas the articulated ones have hands that are larger and ready to hold something.
  • A special note from the designer:
