Old newspapers have many uses once you're done reading them. Here are 12 ways to reuse newspapers that you may not have thought of.
- Shape keeper: stuff crumpled paper into boots, handbags, even soft sided luggage to keep their shape when not in use.
- Glass cleaner: polish just cleaned windows or chrome with newspaper for a streak free finish.
- Shipping packages: cushion or wrap delicate or fragile items with crumbled newspaper rather than plastic peanuts or bubble wrap. Wrap individual pieces in several sheets of newspaper.
- Removes odors: works great overnight when placed in smelly shoes, boots or sneakers. Helps to keep the items fresh smelling, not musty.
- Kids gift wrap: comics make great gift wrap for kids who can personally decorate their packages with markers or crayons
- Gift baskets: weekly grocery circulars make excellent liners or stuffing for food themed gift baskets. Add shredded paper around glass bottles or fruit just like the fancy gift shops use.
- Firelogs: roll up sheets of newspaper into a tight log. Secure with kitchen string and use in your fireplace or at a campfire.
- Garden mulch: spread out newspaper sheets in between rows in your garden to discourage weeds. Water well.
- Kitty litter: shreds of newspaper in kittys box work work as litter. Change frequently!
- Pantry liner: lay sheets of newspaper in the pantry beneath potatoes or onions to keep these items dry and bug free
- Ripen fruit: wrap individual pieces of fruit (tomatoes, peaches, pears) in newspaper to ripen perfectly
- Under the kitchen sink: line your kitchen pail with newspaper to absorb spills and odors. Place several sheets under the pail as well.
