10 Tips For Knockoff Rock & Republic Jean Sellers

Survival of the fittest is the secret of becoming a successful eBay seller of designer jeans or is there a secret?  Who are we fooling?  An estimated 99% of the Rock & Republic jeans listed on eBay are counterfeit or knockoff jeans.  Anyone who has purchased counterfeit or knockoff Rock & Republic jeans know what they look like and can spot them as fast as they can say their ABCs.  Here are 10 tips for sellers listing knockoff Rock & Republic designer jeans.
Let me advise you that there is a major difference in the quality and appearance of knockoff versus authentic Rock & Republic jeans.  I really have to question how any of the Rock & Republic jeans currently on auction are allowed to be listed.  I was bored one night and decided to see how many counterfeit jeans were listed on auction.  It would have been easier to tally how many might have been authentic.  The question is WHY do certain Power Sellers and countries like Canada, U.K., China, and Malaysia continue to sell them on eBay after they have been reported to VeRO?
    1.  IF YOU PLAN TO USE  eBay TO SELL YOUR KNOCKOFF JEANS, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!  The quickest way to lose eBay selling privileges is to list your counterfeit or knockoff jeans.  No sane seller would actually sell a 100% NWT authentic pair of Rock & Republic jeans for $25 to $50.  Is the answer to lie, post an authentic website photo like we see so many sellers do, claim 100% authenticity, and ship the knockoff pair you sold for almost full retail price?  You won't be selling them anytime soon with the rest of the other knockoff jean sellers marketing their jeans for pennies currently.  The answer is to NOT use eBay as the preferred auction site to sell these jeans.
    2.  YOU WILL LEARN FAST THAT VeRO IS NOT YOUR FRIEND.  They are a team who selectively remove listings of alleged counterfeit items.  Don't even attempt to argue with them about why another seller can continue listing his counterfeit jeans but you can't.  Both of you are violating the law and are subject to prosecution so walk away and consider it a lesson learned.  It doesn't matter if you are actually selling authentic jeans; don't be surprised if your listing is removed.  We all know you can purchase authenticity papers to provide for your counterfeit jeans but remember that this is against the law in addition to being deceitful to your customer.
    3.  OMG!  MY ACCOUNT HAS BEEN SUSPENDED.  Sometimes you get warnings by having your item removed for potential trademark infringement but your account can be immediately suspended indefinitely.  Don't engage in a pity party. You have been warned that eBay is NOT the preferred auction site to sell your knockoff jeans.  eBay's policy is that you and your household members are unable to register under a new account. eBay will track you with your IP address, cookies, credit cards, checking accounts, pictures, etc. You will notice your pictures eventually won't even make it to the general public to view as they will be removed by eBay.  A different message comes from eBay versus VeRO members for removed items.  Am I suggesting that you change your IP address, delete all your cookies upon Mozilla closing, change credit cards, open up new bank accounts, take new pictures of your very obvious knockoff jeans, steal more authentic jean website photos to post, and open eBay accounts in your dog's name Fifi or your newborn son's name? NO!  Beware!! Suspended sellers often times become vigilantes and report your items because you can sell but they can't anymore.  Who better to report counterfeit jeans then someone who knows the product just like you?
    4.  I'M PROVIDING A SERVICE TO MIDDLE CLASS AND LOWER CLASS CUSTOMERS WHO ARE UNABLE TO AFFORD THE AUTHENTIC PRODUCT.  Don't fall over laughing!  These companies don't want your free advertising even though these counterfeit jeans are reaching a HUGE market area.  They want you to purchase the jeans at authorized dealers such as Bloomingdale's, Nieman Marcus, Sax Fifth Avenue, and Splash and spend $200 to $300 for a pair.
    5.  MOST eBay BUYERS WON'T KNOW I AM SELLING THEM COUNTERFEIT JEANS.  Keep fooling yourself.  Okay, there may actually be a FEW customers who actually don't know you sold them a pair of knockoff jeans but that is a risk you will take.  I guarantee that you will ALWAYS have customers who file a dispute against your PayPal account.  The famous reasons are item not as described, fake jeans, and item not received.  Some buyers prey upon new sellers and have a career of scamming them out of their merchandise so be very cautious how you list, post pictures, and ship your knockoff jeans.  You will end up refunding the buyer so don't fight it as you are obviously selling a counterfeit product.  The buyer needs to ship your product back however at his or her expense.  Make sure you ALWAYS ship priority mail with delivery confirmation and don't drop the jeans in the after hours box at the post office.  Make sure you hand your package to a postal worker even if you print your labels online.  You can save on delivery confirmation by printing labels online but I like having that receipt in my hand from the post office.
    6.  MOST OF THE KNOCKOFF JEANS COME FROM CHINA.  What doesn't China make?  The standard cost for knockoff Rock & Republic jeans are anywhere from $13 to $19 plus shipping if you purchase them from China.  U.S. nonauthorized wholesalers often charge $25 to $35 depending upon the quantity you purchase.  Don't send any money Western Union to China.  You would be better off going to the casino or drinking at the bar.  At least you have a chance of having fun while you waste your money. Did you know that if your jeans are seized by customs then you are out of money?  Order a sample order only if you plan on being a risk taker by violating the law as you will find that your shipment will ALWAYS be incorrect and consist of the worst quality knockoff jeans that you will be lucky to get a dollar out of.  There are different grades of fabric and of course you will be told by your wholesaler the fabric is grade A.  Am I encouraging you to purchase knockoff jeans from U.S. nonauthorized wholesalers?  Of course I am not. You are violating the law and can be prosecuted.
    7.  SPEAKING OF ROCK & REPUBLIC JEANS.....You can look at any Rock & Republic knockoff jean and know that it is fake.  The crystals are rarely evenly glued on, don't shine, and can pop off with your fingernail.  The length is normally 31 or 32 inches, the hallmark length of knockoff jeans.  If you have done your homework and read up on the characteristics of authentic Rock & Republic jeans, the inseam is normally 35 to 36 inches.  China jeans aren't sized properly.  The paper tag is so cheap looking with duplicated and incorrect information like the material composition.  The new Phoenix Jagger jeans come in UNHEMMED from China.  I guess the talented knockoff jean seller could hem the jeans so they will have a chance of selling.  The Rock & Republic tag is in the standard block style instead of cursive.  The thread is the wrong color and the design is noticeably different.  They run one size small.  The inside paper tag has the wrong material composition. STAY AWAY FROM THE PHOENIX JAGGERS!  My number one pet peeve is the powder blue colored Rock & Republic with silver ball chain hang tag that 99% of the jeans listed on eBay currently have. THESE ARE KNOCKOFF JEANS!!  Once again, why are certain eBay sellers allowed to continue to market them?
    8. WHAT IS COPYRIGHT AND TRADEMARK INFRIGEMENT?  Go to www.uspto.gov and become educated about copyright and trademark infrigement.  Make it a family game night event as many suspended sellers end up using every family member's name to set up a new eBay account under. Make up a vocabulary list, see who can answer the most questions about the actual trademark, etc. as you are marketing a replica of Rock & Republic jean.
    9.  THE FAMOUS QUESTION OF BUYERS:  ARE THESE JEANS AUTHENTIC? Shame on you for telling potential buyers your knockoff jeans are authentic when they ask you.  if you don't tell them anything or that they are factory seconds, plan on having your item removed or reported to VeRO.  Yes, you are damned if you do, damned if you don't but remember you are violating the law. I was  told by a very reliable source that eBay emails exchanged between buyer and seller are NOT allowed to be entered as evidence when resolving your PayPal disputes.
    10.  GENERAL RULES FOR ALL SELLERS TO FOLLOW:
  • Keep pictures of your items you sell for several months as you will eventually have a buyer who states the item wasn't as described.
  • If you use U.S.P.S., always ship your jeans priority mail with delivery confirmation and hand deliver the item to the postal worker instead of dropping it in the after hours box.  It is rare but if the item didn't get scanned upon delivery, there is no record that you sent it.  If you had paid for the delivery confirmation at the U.S.P.S. counter and kept your receipt, there is documentation that the item actually was shipped.  If you print your labels at home, drop the package in the after hours box, and the item never shows up as being delivered, well as far as PayPal knows you paid for shipping but didn't ship the item and you will be out your merchandise and money refunded including shipping to your customer.  Anything over $50, require the customer to pay insurance.
  • Take and use your own pictures of merchandise advertised.  Using authentic website photos can also get your item removed. Don't give your buyer another thing to use when they say the item wasn't as described.
  • Read eBay's policy on selling counterfeit and replica items.
  • Read PayPal seller protection rules.
  • Keep accurate bookkeeping records of all sales transactions so you can refer back to them, especially shipping records.
  • Proofread your ads before listing them for errors.
  • Check to see if your shipping charge is competitive with other sellers as you will have buyers who bid then complain about your shipping prices.  Alaska and Hawaii are the highest places to ship to in the continental U.S.  You can ship several pairs of jeans or clothing items in a flat rate U.S.P.S. priority mail box for $8.10 in the continental U.S.  Typically one pair of Rock & Republic jeans cost $6.05 approximately to ship to Hawaii or Alaska depending upon where you live. Most sellers charge approximately $8.00 to $12.00 to ship one pair of jeans.
  • General tips for shipping other items for new sellers:  Books, DVDs, VHS's, and CD's are shipped media mail.  T-shirts can be shipped first class. God love those yellow 9 x 12 and 6 x 9  manilla envelopes.  Bubble wrap is essential for packaging your items to prevent breakage.  Packaging tape really secures the packages.
In summary, if you plan to sell counterfeit or replica Rock & Republic jeans as a new career, it is risky business.  Keep your day job as you will probably end up having jean parties in order to get rid of your inventory. I realize that there are honest sellers who actually believed the Rock & Republic jeans they purchased were authentic because their "wholesaler" told them so but all sellers have a legal responsibility to determine the authenticity of the items they sell to eBay customers.  If you have ever owned authentic designer wear jeans, you will notice a difference in the quality in comparison to a knockoff replica pair.  REPEAT AFTER ME:  eBay is NOT the place to sell knockoff Rock & Republic jeans!!! Have a nice day!
