10 Great Ways to Help The Environment

Worried about the environment?  I am… so here’s a great list of 10 ways you can help protect the environment, and even help reverse some of the harmful effects we are doing to it.

1. Walk more, Drive Less:  Driving less can be as easy as parking in a central location or carpooling with several friends/family members.  The less time you spend driving, the less Carbon Dioxide is released into the atmosphere.
2. Buy a More Efficient Car:  If you must drive a lot, drive/buy a more efficient car.  There are plenty of fuel efficient/enviro friendly vehicles to choose from.  There’s a fuel-efficient car out there for just about any budget.
3. Use Cloth Grocery Bags:  Even though they say they are biodegradable, plastic garbage bags are not.  Use your own Cloth Garbage Bags, they don’t rip and they’re better for the environment.
4. Buy Recycled/Recyclable Goods:  Only buy goods that are recyclable, or made from recycled material.  The more we reuse, the less we have to take from our planet.
5. Then Recycle Them:  This one is a no-brainer; the more we recycle the less we waste.  Make an effort to recycle as much as you can.
6. Compost:  Composting not only reduces waste, but it also helps improve the environment by improving the soil.  Setting up a small compost bin in your backyard is a simple project and can even be profitable.  You can sell your composted material to neighbours if you do not have your own use for it.
7. Save Water:  Use low flow showerheads, dual flush toilets, and other water efficient appliances.  Make sure you only do laundry or dishes when you have a full load.
8. Houseplants:  Houseplants add beauty to homes, but do you know that you can use houseplants for air purification instead of air fresheners.
9. Plant a Tree:  Heck… Plant a couple trees, they absorb carbon dioxide and help reduce cooling bills in the summer, plus they’re really nice to look at.
10. Teach Your Children Well:  Teach your children the importance of taking care of our environment and teach them ways they can preserve it.
