1. Knitting is portable. You can take it almost anywhere.

2. I can knit and read at the same time. I can't do that with spinning, or quilting, or beading.

3. Knitting is flexible in the level of creativity you put into it. You can follow a pattern to the letter, or you can spin and dye your own yarn, then design the pattern and knit the project.

4. Secretly, other people want to learn how to knit. The ones who make fun of it the most are really the ones who want to be doing something creative.

5. Knitting gives me an excuse to watch all the trashy TV show I want, because I am doing something productive instead of just sitting in front of the TV.

6. Knitting makes other people happy. I just knitted my friend Jessica a Harry Potter scarf for her birthday.It wasn't anything difficult, but the look on her face when she received it was priceless.

7. Knitting not only makes beautiful things, but functional ones as well. I haven't purchased a hat or gloves or mittens or scarves in I don't know how long.

8. Knitting is meditation for me. It is calm, repetitive and quiet. When stressed out, knitting a simple project like a garter stitch scarf is like Valium.

9. Unless you have a huge yarn stash, knitting doesn't take up much space or require many tools. Really disciplined knitters don't buy more yarn until they finish the project they are working on. I'm not disciplined.

10. Knitting has brought me many friends. Some of my favorite memories are sitting around in the evenings at SOAR, knitting away while gossiping with my best friends.
